UKAS Accredited Sound Insulation Testing
Sound insulation testing is the method used to measure the resistance of sound provided by an element of a building (such as a floor or wall) between dwellings. It essentially measures the effectiveness of the sound proofing treatment installed as part of a build or property development.
It has been a mandatory part of the Building Regulations for new build and refurbishment projects since Approved Document E was revised in 2003.
As many contractors and developers have found to their cost, without a sound insulation certificate, the Building Control Officer will not issue your completion certificate.
Whether you’re a private individual with a one-off project, a regional house builder or a national property developer, the consequences of a failed sound insulation test can be equally devastating to your budget and your programme.
We understand how important it is for you to get a first-time pass. That’s why we go the extra mile to make sure you get your certificate as quickly as possible. In fact, we provide the fastest turnaround for sound insulation testing certificates you can find.
Our fully trained, UKAS accredited sound insulation test engineers are regionally based so we can be on site when you need us. Depending on your design, we can achieve the Building Regs requirements first time. Your Site Sound engineer will give you immediate verbal results from the sound test, and you’ll have a written report the following working day. We can also provide an immediate report in real time if your requirement is particularly urgent. Contact us to arrange for an engineer to visit your site.
Technical Advice and Design Service
Commissioning us at the beginning of your project could save you money, whether you’re a first-timer or more experienced developer.
Why? Well, under-specifying insulation may result in a failed sound test. Putting it right at the end of a project can require significant remedial and costly work. Likewise, over specifying your acoustic design is potentially a waste of budget for both materials and labour.
Our experienced design team has great in depth knowledge about bespoke and proprietary sound insulation products. They can give you the guidance you need to ensure your design incorporates the correct levels of insulation from the outset.
'Code' for Sustainable Homes
Is your build targeting achieving code for sustainable homes? If yes, then more stringent sound insulation targets or an increased test schedule are an economic way to help achieve your 'code' targets.
